The Hess Lancaster test is performed to determine the type and degree of acquired strabismus (the type developed by adults). In addition, it further indicates which of the muscles have been affected.It creates a graphic registry of the eye motor function, thereby making it relatively easy to identify the presence of hypo or hyperactivity, in any of the twelve muscles that allow the movement of both eye globes.
